Long road trips, short weekend camping getaways, and even locals wanting to have a fun horseback riding experience – whatever your reason is to visit Bear Creek Ranch KOA – know you are in for a great time with great horses, beautifully thick forests, and great wranglers guiding you along! Read on for my trail riding experience from September 2020.

The current cost for an hour of trail riding is $45, which is an average and reasonable price. The horse I was assigned to was a sandy blonde roan and my mom got a chestnut bay horse. Both horses were very well trained. The style of the trail ride was a 10-horse train, so each horse just followed the one in front of it. The forest had a tree here or there to watch your feet on but 90% of the ride, you didn’t have to actively steer your horse. There is not much else to review about the horses. They were well-mannered and easy to handle.

Northeastern Ohio is in the rolling hills near the Pennsylvania-Ohio border. The trail runs through a thick forest with medium to heavy shade coverage with gradual hills as the terrain. When I lived in Ohio, there was something calming and tranquil about walking through a forest. There wasn’t any wildlife out near the trail but what you could expect is deer. While bears are known to live in Eastern Ohio, the numbers are rebounding from unregulated hunting from the early 1800s. There is a rare chance you could see a bear on this trail.

I would say that while the trail is a typical trail you could find in Ohio, there is still a great ambiance to the environment of the forest with lush green trees, bushes, and ground-hugging foliage. Exploring the mysterious forest is an adventure worth partaking in on a horse. There are also some small lakes and cute ponds along the trail that for some great pictures.
